Sheelagh Behan
I am an experienced registered homeopath, having spent the years since I graduated in 1994 in a busy practice in Dublin City Centre and in Portmarnock where I live with my family and pets (1 dog and 2 cats at the moment!).
Training:
After completing 4 years study at the Irish School of Homeopathy in Dublin, I went on to finish 3 years post-graduate studies with Jeremy Sherr and Dr. A.U. Ramakrishnan, both renowned homeopaths. I have tutored and supervised students at the Irish School Of Homeopathy for many years now. I also trained and worked in counselling and find this experience invaluable in my practice today. An active member of the Irish Society of Homeopaths for many years, I am currently a spokesperson and member of the Media Team for the Society.
About Homeopathy:
Homeopathy is a safe and gentle system of medicine that uses naturally occurring substances in the form of remedies to stimulate the body's natural ability to heal. All kinds of complaints are treated by Homeopathy so my day is very varied and each case presents a unique set of circumstances. My patients range in age from infants to older age and often whole families will attend for treatment. Here's what some of them have to say about their experiences: "I first heard of homoeopathy about 10 years ago and was fascinated by this healing concept.
I was prompted to try it some time later when my GP started treating a persistent cough with asthma medication. At that point I decided I was not asthmatic and sought an alternative. For those of us brought up in the "antibiotic" era homoeopathy can take some getting used to. In contrast to the 5-10 mins allotted to the patient in the G.P.''s surgery, the initial consultation will last over an hour, and subsequent appointments are never hurried. Many of the questions asked by the homoeopath may seem unrelated to the presenting problem and even the method of taking the remedy can seem a little odd. The most extraordinary part is that the homoeopath actually wants to know how the patient is doing on the remedy and is available to advise, a trait not evident in most G.P.'s
