Catriona McCormack
I founded Yoga Ireland 13 years ago with the intention of teaching yoga to people because of the amazing curative results I’d had. I had had chronic eczema since I was a baby, I developed asthma and have scoliosis. Having exhausted every other avenue I decided to try Yoga. Within 1 year of practice my eczema and asthma had cleared and my back felt great. I left a career in design and started training to be a teacher. I have been practicing for more than 16 years now. Along the way I have studied with some of the most experienced and knowledgeable yogis from all different parts of the world and schools of thought. I completed a further two-year Yoga Therapy Diploma Course in 2002 with two medical doctors and Marie Quail, an esteemed yoga therapist. This provided me with a grounding in modern medicine and the application of yoga to medical conditions.
At the age of twelve I decided to become a vegetarian and this duly led to further research of nutrition. At around the age of thirteen I read a book on hypnosis and was greatly inspired by the sheer "power of the mind", which the book elaborated on.
When I was seventeen I attended my first yoga class and by the time I was a third level design student I was practicing yoga in earnest.
During my early twenties I underwent some challenging times, as many of us do through these transitional and unpredictable times. Yoga gave me the strength and courage I needed to weather these times, both physically and spiritually. At this time I was suffering from asthma and severe lower back pain, through yoga practice I found my ventolin inhaler redundant and the need for physiotherapy unnecessary-once more testament to the curative and preventative powers of yoga.
My motivation was a staunch belief in the positive and redemptive abilities of yoga and the desire to share these with others. I have had the privilege to train with some of the most famous & learned yogis,to name a few David Swenson, Hannah Gilespy, Marie Quail & Marianne Jacuzzi. In 2001 I began a diploma in Yoga Therapy course with YTTC and was happy to qualify and come first in my class. I now specializes in Back conditions and stress management and has had great success over the years with clients. I''m also qualified in Indian Head Massage and have had Reiki attunement which I incorporate in both my private & general sessions. I am now enjoying furthering my training in Energy medicine based on Donna Eden''s techniques. I teach daily general, corporate classes alongside my Yoga Therapy clinic..Some of my corporate clients to date are IIB,An Bord Bia,Blanchardstown Hospital & Harrolds Cross Hospice and Davy''s stock brokers. I am passionate about spreading the word of Yoga and enjoying it every step of the way..
