Post event The sports massage therapist aims to loosen muscles that have become stiff during competition and therefore aid relaxation. Weekly maintenance sports massage eases pain brought about by intensive training and keeps muscles flexible and in good health for forthcoming competition. WHAT CAN IT TREAT?
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A TREATMENT?The therapist will use various massage techniques on any areas they feel need treating and will begin by applying pressure and stroking movements using palms and forearms. This light rhythmical movement helps to relax muscle tissue and aids the therapist in identifying tender areas. As the session progresses, deeper pressure is applied to stretch out and separate muscle tissue and encourage better circulation of fluids in the body, this is done using a kneading technique. Finally, a variety of techniques are used, depending on the condition, which include NMT (Neuromuscular technique), joint stretching and articulation, STR (Soft Tissue Release) and vibratory movements to locate and repair any damage caused to muscles, tendons, fascia and joints. You may feel some slight discomfort during the session while the therapist is working over tender trigger points within the muscle. The therapist will discuss the treatment with you and then make recommendations for any further sessions. |
