WHAT IS AMERICAN TRIBAL STYLE BELLYDANCE?

Developed and pioneered in San Francisco by FatChanceBellyDance under the direction of Carolena Nericcio, American Tribal Style bellydance(ATS) is known for its earthy, colourful fusion of ethnic dance styles from around the world combined into a structured and accessible dance idiom.

FatChance format ATS is recognised and taught globally and is known for its concept of Improvisational Choreography where individual moves are combined with cues and transitions to create a spontaneous performance .

Students and troupes from around the world are able to connect and dance with each other with little or no rehearsal. ATS offers a fun and empowering way to keep fit and enrich your dance experience.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A CLASS

We''ll begin with a gentle warm up and some posture work. After that we''ll go through a series of slow and fast moves, each of which will be be broken down into its constituent parts for in-depth learning and muscle memory. We''ll also cover the muscle groups involved in each move.

Then we''ll group together and work on the moves to create spontaneous dance routines - this is when we practice our cues and formations. We''ll also explore the use of dance rhythms with zills (finger cymbals).

Throughout the course the aim is to:

  • encourage a dynamic group energy
  • draw all the moves & practices into spontaneous and smoothly executed dance routines
  • dance together, be fabulous and have fun!
