What is Tai Chi Chuan?
Tai Chi Chuan (Grand Ultimate Fist or Grand Ultimate Way) is one of the most revered, ancient and widely practiced martial arts in the world today. Its roots can be found in Chinese History dating as far back as the first introductions of Taoism and Buddhism to the Chinese people.
Tai Chi is well known for its superior health benefits and high level manner of effectiveness in combat. The Tai Chi forms are performed in a slow, relaxed manner. This calms the mind and releases the mental and physical tensions of our modern stressful lifestyle. As a martial art, Tai Ch Chuan uses the theory of “four ounces of strength against a tonne of force”. This translates to repelling opponents using their own energy against them, rather that resorting to "force against force" in the traditional sense.

What do I need to take Tai Chi?
An open mind and a willingness to learn at your own pace. Loose fitting, comfortable clothing, sturdy runners or athletic shoes, bottled water and a towel. No Serious Injuries unless you have a doctors' note of limitations and explanation of said injury. Please consult your instructor if you have any questions about this.

Is being in great shape a requirement of Tai Chi?
It is a common misconception that one must be in top physical shape before attempting to study a martial art like Tai Chi Chuan. Nothing could be further than the truth! Tai Chi is commonly practiced by the elderly, overweight, disabled and physically challenged as well as fit people throughout Asia, Europe and the US. Tai Chi does not require great strength or prior martial arts skills. Instead, it will help the practitioner to gain these attributes and more, through its' practice. It is perfect for those of us who do not have the desire nor the time to learn any of the more physically demanding martial arts disciplines.

What will Tai Chi do for me?
Improve blood circulation and breathing. Help to improve balance and co-ordination. Strengthen muscles and joints. Slow down the effects of Arthritis and Osteoporosis. Relieve and help to manage day-to-day stress. Or as a wise man once said… Our bodies become looser, Our bones become stronger, Our blood flows more efficiently, Our organs become healthier, Our thoughts become gathered and more ordered, Our views become more understanding of others, Our hopes become brighter and higher, Our actions become more peaceful and quiet.
