"The attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind, fully capable of naturally performing our many daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure."
Joseph Pilates

The benefits of Pilates

  • The top benefits doing of Pilates exercise that people report are that they become stronger, longer, leaner, and more able to do anything with grace and ease
  • improvements in range of motion, flexibility, circulation, posture, and abdominal strength -- and decreases in back, neck and joint pain.

WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is a unique form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement.

The core muscles are the deep, internal muscles of the abdomen and back. When the core muscles are strong and doing their job, as they are trained to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and movement.

As you develop your core strength you develop stability throughout your entire torso. This is one of the keys to how Pilates helps people overcome back pain. As the trunk is properly stabilized, pressure on the back is relieved and the body is able to move freely and efficiently.

WHAT CAN IT TREAT?

Pilates is all about natural flowing movement. Practiced regularly Pilates will change the way you move. Pilates involves gentle moves and stretches with the aim of strengthening and lengthening muscles so that the whole body feels toned. There is a strong focus on the postural muscles including abdominal muscles, which are essential for supporting the back. Joseph Pilates developed Pilates in the 1920''s as an exercise, which encourages core stability to the body, improves posture, strengthens muscles and relieves mental stress. Pilates exercises are safe during pregnancy.

It can treat:

  • Poor Flexibility
  • Poor Muscle tone
  • Poor circulation
  • Stress
  • Flaccid stomach muscles
  • Poor posture
  • Headaches
  • Back pain
  • Lowered Immune system
  • Poor joint mobility
  • Sports injuries
  • More efficient respiratory system
  • More efficient lymphatic system (less toxins in the body)

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM PILATES?

Pilates is one of the most popular exercise systems in the country. It seems like everyone is either doing Pilates, or interested in starting a Pilates exercise program. Indeed, one of the best things about the Pilates method is that it works so well for a wide range of people. Athletes and dancers love it, as do seniors, women rebounding from pregnancy, and people at various stages of physical rehabilitation.

WHAT DOES A ONE TO ONE SESSION INVOLVE?

Sessions can be tailored to suit your ability, enhance sports performance, or if you feel you work better in a one to one situation then you are sure to get a really good workout with no opportunity to disappear in a crowd! In the case of rehabilitating an injury, each session will be aiming to improve and strengthen the injury and get the client back into peak physical condition.
